BSU Scaryoke

DATE: October 28, 2025 @ 7:00 PM
DEADLINE: October 27, 2025 @ Midnight

What is 'Scaryoke'?

“Scaryoke” is like regular karaoke, with a twist—you nominate a person to sing a song of your choice! Donations made to a nominee will place the nominee onto a leaderboard with a point value equal to your donation. The top five nominees will then have to sing the song you nominated them for on the night of Scaryoke!

How Does 'Scaryoke' Work?

For someone to sing on the night of Scaryoke, they must be nominated to sing. A nomination is a donation to the BSU’s mission funds containing the following information:

  1. The nominee’s first and last name.

  2. The song’s name and artist.

  3. The donation amount, which will equate to their point value.

Examples of a GOOD nomination:

  • Charlie Holmes – “Lights” by Journey

  • Charlie Holmes to sing Ellie Goulding’s “Lights”

Examples of a BAD nomination:

  • Charlie sing lights

You can nominate as many people as you want, as often as you want, and as much money as you want—if you can pay it! If you can’t come up with someone or something to nominate, you can instead donate towards an existing nomination to move it up the leaderboard! Group donations are highly encouraged!

When the deadline for nominations has been reached, the top five nominees will be determined by placement. Ties for fifth place will be broken by a majority vote held on the night of Scaryoke. Songs will be sung in ascending order, starting with fifth place and ending with first place.

Additional 'Scaryoke' Rules!

  1. BE A GOOD SPORT! If you are nominated to sing, don’t be a party pooper and skip out on purpose! Come and be ready to sing! You don’t have to sound like Tori Kelly, you just have to have fun!

  2. BE PREPARED! If you see your name show up on the leaderboard, you should go ahead and start practicing your song in its entirety. You never know if someone or a group of people will make a large donation at the last minute, so be prepared!

  3. KEEP THE CHANGE! All donations must be whole dollar amounts.

  4. NO ENCORES! One person can be nominated to sing multiple songs! However, they will ONLY be asked to sing the song with the highest dollar amount.

  5. NO DUETS! You cannot nominate two people to do a song together. Unless they both consent. Then it's fair game.

  6. KEEP IT PG! Your song nominations will be screened prior to the night of Scaryoke. If your song is deemed inappropriate for someone to sing, you will be asked to change the song. If you do not change the song, then your nomination will be omitted.

  7. NO REFUNDS! If you made a donation for a nominee, and they are not in the top five after the deadline, you will not receive a refund. All donations are made in good faith to support students to go on mission, after all!

How Can I Make A Nomination?

Nominations can be made one of two ways:

1) Physical Nomination Sheet - There is a nomination sheet located in the BSU that you can fill out your nomination. Please make sure to get your payment to Gary Davison or a member of the Lead Team.

2) Electronic Nomination - Include your nomination in the memo/notes section of an electronic payment (Cash App, Venmo, etc.). Tap either of the images below to be taken to their respective pages.
